If you have a child, chances are that he or she plays the piano pretty well and a part of your heart has always wanted to give him or her a grand piano to own personally. The grand (pardon the pun) idea may have been hampered by the thought of either the pricing or the space consumption. Well, that fear or concern can go away now. Yamaha has added smaller sized grand pianos to their list of musical instruments. The GB1 and GB1K are truly perfect grand pianos from Yamaha.
Dimensions
The keyboard is a 88 key keyboard with acrylic resin white key surfaces and phenolic resin black key surfaces. The pedal is a Bass sustaining pedal. The square edged lid comes with two prop positions. The physical dimensions of the Yamaha GB1 are just 146 cm x 99 cm x 151 cm! Also, it weighs only 574 pounds as opposed to 1300 pounds that a full sized concert piano may weigh.
Features
The main features of the GB1 baby grand from Yamaha include:
- Aluminum alloy action rails
- Bass sustain
- Hardwood reinforced keyframe
- Lid prop stopper
- Vacuum shield mold process (V-Pro) plate
- Premium hammers with T-fasteners designed completely by Yamaha
- Finish: The Yamaha baby grand piano comes with five different finishes to suit your tastes. This makes sure that your baby grand will not look like a misfit when it is set up in your house. You could choose from any one of the following and you can be sure that you are getting the very best:
- Polished ebony
- French provincial
- Georgian
- Polished American walnut
- Polished mahogany
Pricing
As one would expect, the baby grands are way more economic and procurable than a regular grand piano of the same quality. However, quality is something Yamaha does not compromise upon and they have proved this time and again. The GB1 will cost you anywhere between $ 11000 to $ 14000 depending on the specifications and location. The GB1K on the other hand will cost you slightly higher at $ 18000 to $ 21000, depending again on your specifications and location.
As opposed to an upright piano that may be smaller than the baby grands, the sound quality of the baby grands is unquestionably better! The Yamaha Baby Grand GB1 and the GB1K are some of the best grand pianos within your reach and will find a place in your home and light it up like Christmas lighting all the year through!

Yamaha has its own line of baby grand pianos – pianos that are compact and can easily be afforded apart from being easy to store and manage. On a realistic note, though full sized grand pianos and concert pianos are things to die for, they are highly impractical when it comes to storing them in your home. So that is where baby grand pianos come in. Yamaha’s G series consists of the GB1 and the GB1K baby grands.
The GB1K baby grand piano
A century of making pianos, Yamaha knows exactly what it is up to. The GB1K features advanced scale design and solid spruce soundboard and ribs. The bass strings are made of solid copper and are wound well. Excellence is visible in everything, from the aforementioned to the maple bridge and maple caps all the way to the aluminum alloy action rails. It also feature the premium hammers designed by Yamaha along with T-fasteners. It also comes with a V-Pro plate aka the vacuum shield mold process plate that ensures greater life of the baby grand piano.
And if you have hated having your fingers pay your karmic debts each time the fallboard decides that the right time to be in an excessively literal mood is when you are halfway through playing the Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor aka Fur Elise, well Yamaha just saved your fingers with their soft-close™ fallboard technology that ensures that your fingers are treated royally.
The finish for the GB1K is varied and you can choose from a polished ebony, or polished American walnut, and polished mahogany, or could even opt for French style provincial Cherry and Georgian style mahogany. The key surfaces are made from white coloured acrylic resin and black coloured phenolic resin. The square edged lid can be propped up in 2 positions and the music desk can be propped up in 5 different positions. On the downside, the GB1K comes only with a single pedal- a bass sustain. It is also procurable as the Disklavier and under that by the names Mark III: DGB1CD and the E3: DGB1KE3.
The dimensions of the GB1K are impressive. It is only 1510 mm in length, 1460 mm in width and at 990 mm tall, it stands tall just shy of a metre. The weight of the GB1K is 261 kilograms, which may seem like a lot but is comparatively much lesser for a grand piano. The Yamaha GB1K baby grand piano is everything you want it to be and coming to think of it, even more!
